“You’re going to be home for the holidays.” It was this promise, made by her housing case manager, that kept Tramaine motivated in her darkest moments.
Before arriving at the Coalition, Tramaine and her three children lived in an apartment near Kissimmee. They moved to Central Florida in 2008 after vacationing here and falling in love with the warm weather and friendly atmosphere. For nearly ten years, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, providing a comfortable life for her family.
All of that changed in 2016 when she was involved in back-to-back car accidents, leading to surgery that kept her out of work for months. “I was unable to work and my disability hadn’t kicked in yet,” she says. “I was trying to explain that to the apartment complex, but they told me that if I can’t pay my rent, I had to get out.”
As her savings disappeared, she began researching options and found out about the Coalition. “I had no idea what we were going to do until the Coalition told me there was a spot open for us. I didn’t know that there was help out there, until I became living proof that there is,” she says.
Just two months after joining our program, Tramaine’s housing case manager, Brenda, helped her find an apartment through our Rapid Re-Housing Program, which focuses on the quick placement of a family into rental units with time-limited financial assistance and supportive services.
“The first time I opened the door to my new home, I was ecstatic. We moved in just in time for the holidays, and we even have our own Christmas tree!”
And the good news doesn’t stop there. Tramaine was able to find a job in her field once again, and with her family’s newfound stability, she’s noticed a change in her three teenagers. “Now, my son is planning family game nights and movie nights in our new home. I’m so happy.”
Each and every day, your support helps families like Tramaine’s begin the journey that will lead them home. We can’t thank you enough.
