The Changing Face of Homelessness

When you think of the word "homeless," what image comes to mind? Do you think about:

  • A single mother of four trying to make it in a new city?
  • A senior citizen with a disability and no support system?
  • A family hit hard by the economic downturn?
  • A young woman fleeing an abusive relationship?

These are real families and individuals who have faced homelessness in Central Florida. Explore our site to learn how you can help break the cycle of homelessness!

Meet Barbara

Feeling forced to flee an irresponsible husband, Barbara, along with her four children, embarked on a search for a better life.

Planning the move from New York to Orlando with no income, transportation, or shelter, Barbara unwillingly acknowledged that her three older children would be better off in Puerto Rico with family for the time being.

First Steps Substance Abuse Recovery Program

As one of the major contributors to homelessness, substance abuse can prove detrimental for our clients who are striving to return to independence. To aid addicted clients in achieving both self-sufficiency and sobriety, the Coalition offers the First Steps Substance Abuse Recovery Program, an intensive program serving both men and women through several components.

Art By Coalition (ABCs) Children

Art By Coalition Children is a unique program at Coalition for the Homeless that pairs professional artists in the community with children living at the Coalition.

Often struggling with low self-esteem due to their circumstances, the Coalition's children desperately need opportunities to express and discover themselves.
